On 15 and 16 April, our region became the hub of the cardboard industry with the AFCO 2026 Business Summit. Under the slogan “Cardboard: material of the future”, executives and leading companies came together to outline the key principles of a strategic industry in smart sustainability.

Strategy in a changing environment
The main session was led by Leopoldo Santorromán, president of AFCO and CEO of Cartonajes Santorromán, at Bodegas Palacios Vinos de Finca. Some of the issues addressed included defining cardboard not only as a recyclable material, but as a technological solution capable of adapting to the new demands of the supply chain. During the subsequent sessions, the discussion also delved into, amongst other topics, how digitalisation is enabling us to optimise resources and reduce our clients’ carbon footprint

Elite leadership and adaptability
Beyond the technical data, the event offered us a human and inspiring perspective on leadership. Through a discussion entitled “Elite Training and Values”, Toni Nadal, a leading figure in tennis and mentor to Rafa Nadal, and the engineer and illusionist Jorge Luengo, reflected on discipline, methodology and the ability to adapt to highly demanding environments. Their messages on resilience and the importance of attitude resonated strongly, reminding us that a can-do mindset is the driving force needed to tackle any industrial transformation.
